"I've Just Seen A Face: Portraits & More by Jonathon Kimbrell" at the Arlington Mu

It's short notice, but happy to announce I'll be having a small exhibition of work at the Arlington Museum of Art in Arlington, TX, opening Saturday, May 13, 2017.

The show (which more or less is a retrospective of work from the last few years) opens alongside the museum's main exhibit, "Milton H. Greene: Women."

As noted on the AMA's website: Born in New York in 1922, Milton Greene began taking pictures at the early age of 14. Although he was the recipient of a scholarship to the renowned Pratt Institute, a heightened awareness of the photographic image diverted his attention to the camera and its versatility. He soon apprenticed himself to the famous photojournalist and wizard of composition, Elliot Elisofen. Before long, his keen regard for fashion and the camera found him assisting Louise Dahl-Wolfe, the distinguished fashion photographer known for her unique covers and fashion pages for Harper’s Bazaar.

The range of Milton Greene’s subjects include such people as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner, Marlene Dietrich, Grace Kelly, Cary Grant, Sammy Davis Jr., Sir Lawrence Olivier, Judy Garland, Paul Newman, Dizzy Gillespie, and Catherine Deneuve as well as many others. But it was his unique friendship, business relationship and ensuing photographs of Marilyn Monroe for which he is most remembered.

I'm probably a little nuts to squeeze in this show, along with some new art, while I'm preparing to get married the same day the show opens, but it is too good of an opportunity to pass up. I've been a fan of Milton Greene's photography for years, so I'm feeling quite honored to have some of my paintings featuring the same subject matter, on display under the same roof. The opening reception for both exhibits is scheduled for May 25th and will be on display through August 6, 2017.

In addition to the exhibit at the AMA, I will be doing a silk screen printing workshop (or two) this summer at the museum. Details to come.

Speaking of wedding...I'll be tying the knot to my partner in crime, Sloan, one week from tomorrow. Excited to celebrate this day with our close friends and family members, with plenty of Texas BBQ, beer and good people. It's been a crazy last few months of saving, planning, plotting, but the time and resources has definitely been worth it, and we are both looking forward to starting this new chapter in our lives. Will see you all on the other side. :)
