"Paper Legos" Exhibit Coming December 18, 2026

It's been a number of years since my last public art exhibit. While I was extremely burned out, I didn't care if I ever had an art exhibit again. Luckily, after some healing, my attitude has changed, and I'm looking forward to showing my work to the public again.

This time around will be a little different. Dropping December 18, 2026, "Paper Legos", will debut as an online-only exhibit of my collage work from the last few years, instead of through a traditional brick-n-mortar gallery space. The title is in reference of what I refer my bits of collage pieces. Compositions are built using multiple layers of torn paper to achieve the final design, the bits being 'legos' of paper. Clever, huh?

The work will be exclusive to my website which will afford me the opportunity to rotate out pieces over the course of the exhibition. I don't have an exact end date in mind, but you'll be able to see the work for at least a few months and have reason to return. The plan is to also produce an accompanying print catalog of the exhibit, as many of these pieces will look far better better in print than on screen. The catalog will be a ways off, though. I'm still sorting through the stacks and stacks of collage pieces and books to decide on final selections.

The two above pieces are easy contenders for the exhibit, which illustrates my affection for torn edges, bright colors, aged paper, and graphic textures. I tend to work within a limited pallet to challenge my design senses. In some cases, many of my collage designs include only 2-3 pieces of paper bits. Overall, the exhibit will show a wide range of collage work from 2018-2026, most which have not been shared online previously.

In other news...

I've pulled back on my social media existence substantially over the last few weeks, nearly to the point of removing my online presence entirely. I won't get into the weeds on the 'why', but essentially, I'm fed up and bored with social media, especially Instagram. If I have to maintain an online presence, I'd rather do it through an old-school website, while there are actual people who still visit them. To that point, I've rebranded the 'news' section of the website to 'The Cereal News.' The newsletter mechanics and content are still being worked out, but you'll be able to keep up with all the various news, here.

Additionally, I'm working on revamping the web shop and my offerings of prints, original art, and kitschy stuff. I won't have the revamp complete until after the holidays, though. (I usually take the last two months of the year off to wind down, enjoy the holidays, and plot my next moves for the new year.) However, I think the wait will be worth it. Until I have a brick-n-mortar gallery/open-to-the-public studio, the website will be the best place to get your JK Creative wares.

That just about does it for this installment of "The Cereal News." More goodies to share really soon. In the meantime, be sure to mark your calendars for the debut of "Paper Legos" on 12/18/26!
